DescriptionPatrick Leonard was born in Rush, County Dublin in 1918. He studied under Seán Keating and Maurice MacGonigal at the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin and exhibited at the RHA from 1941. Periods of illness often interrupted his work as both artist and teacher. Meaning 'the harbour' in Irish, An Cuan is typical of Patrick Leonard's style where he painted many scenes of women and children in bright vivid dress set in Dublin streets, at the seaside, or close to Rush harbour and the countryside around the North Dublin village. On View
