DescriptionThe Laverys were in Ireland when Collins was shot in his home county of Cork on 22nd August 1922. Lavery painted a series of works depicting Collins in death. This sketch was carried out from the gallery of the Pro-Cathedral, Dublin, while the funeral Mass was taking place. It is remarkablly similar to 'Southwark Cathedral, London' of 1920. The finished canvas is now in a private collection in Ireland.
