DescriptionGriffith's portrait was begun in London during the July negotiations, but Lavery was unable to complete any additional studies at talks broke down after a short time. Griffith was a journalist and founder of the Sinn Féin party. After the Rising he stepped aside as President of Sinn Féin to allow de Valera to assume leadership of the party.
